Biography

Sean C. Griffin practices in Garvey Schubert Barer’s Washington, D.C. office, where he focuses on commercial litigation, ethics and compliance, and legal malpractice defense. In addition to litigating cases in state and federal courts around the country, he conducts internal compliance investigations regarding anti-corruption enforcement and allegations of securities law violations. Prior to joining Garvey Schubert Barer, he served in the US Department of Justice, Civil Division, where he handled commercial litigation trials and appeals. Mr. Griffin also practices in the compliance arena, where he assists clients with anti-corruption efforts around the world, including Angola, Nigeria, Russia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, and the United Kingdom. He manages internal investigations of potential breaches of federal, state, and local law, including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA), Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), the Securities Act, the Exchange Act, and Dodd-Frank. He performs risk assessments to ensure compliance with applicable laws, and he helps clients draft risk mitigation plans. When necessary, he defends against shareholder derivative suits based on alleged or admitted violations of the FCPA or other anti-corruption statutes.
