On March 20, 2019, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB or Bureau) released its Fair Debt Collection Practices Act Annual Report. The report discusses trends in the complaints received by consumers as well as trends in the debt collection markets. However, the most important information for creditors and debt collectors alike is the calling-out of certain verification of debt practices where the creditor -- rather than the debt collector -- directly responds to a consumer’s debt validation requests.
