Ontario Systems is pleased to announce the election of Steve Gerow, vice president of application development, as chairman of the Software Engineering Research Center (SERC) industrial advisory board.

SERC is a partnership between 11 business and governmental organizations and nine universities to conduct applied and fundamental research on software technology problems. SERC started as an Industry/University Cooperative Research Center sponsored by the National Science Foundation with the goal of promoting transfer of technology from university research to industry.

Industry members request specific research projects and provide funding and results are shared among members. Faculty and students from member universities conduct the research, providing academic research and real-world experience opportunities.

In addition to Ontario Systems, other industry members include Motorola, Eli Lilly and Co., Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Army Research Lab and NASA. Academic participants include Ball State University, Penn State, Purdue University, DePaul University, the University of Illinois at Chicago, University of West Virginia, University of West Florida, Portland State University and University of Limerick.

As industry advisory board chairman, Gerow will moderate SERC’s semi-annual showcases, where researchers present findings to industry representatives and receive feedback. Researchers and industry representatives also propose new research projects at showcases.
