Without cash advance companies, Marie Gore does not know where she would find money for emergencies.


But Gore, a Greensboro native, and thousands like her throughout the state soon may not have the option of using one of the about 400 cash advance shops in North Carolina.


State regulators, who accuse the businesses of charging interest rates that can top 500 percent a year, may soon force the stores to close.
