A Mortgage Bankers Association report last week claims that mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac will likely never regain their dominance in the mortgage industry as lenders.


The report pointed to recent accounting issues at the former government-sponsored enterprises as a main reason confidence in the companies had been eroded.


The report stated, ?Given the rapid rise in the private issuance share of the market, and the GSEs’ ongoing political and accounting difficulties, their dominance in the market is no longer a relevant issue.?
