Lawmakers and hospital representatives have joined forces to decry the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ proposed Medicaid cuts.

While the cuts would save about $4 billion for the government, it would be savings in spite of tremendous needs bullet-pointed by hospitals – among which: the cuts would be detrimental to safety net hospitals and which would limit care to the nation’s neediest patients.

Various state senators and representatives have aired how much their states stand to lose if the cuts go through. Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) said that if the proposed rule goes through, hospitals in his state could lose up to $159 million in funding, devastating rural providers.  Congressman Ron Klein (D-Fla.) said Florida could lose $932 million in federal-state funding.
