Minneapolis, MN — UniversalSystems today announced that they have received an award from Pittsburgh Vision Services (PVS) for assistance given in the creation of a call center training facility for the blind and visually impaired.

UniversalSystems in concert with the Alcoa Foundation, Hewlett Packard, Intel, Mellon Bank, Knowlagent, the Verizon Foundation, the Mosaix Users Group and the Pennsylvania Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services have come together to create a training center for Pittsburgh Vision Services. The training center is based around a call center simulation that provides real world training for blind and visually impaired call center agents.

Dr. Richard Welsh, President of Pittsburgh Vision Services, highlighted the contribution of Universal Systems when he said, “The support of Universal Systems has been especially important to this project. Because Universal Systems has successfully employed a number of blind and visually impaired staff members at its own call centers, its support of our project has helped us feel certain that we were on the right track in establishing this training program”.

Blake Rice, founder and CEO of UniversalSystems commented, ?We are delighted in receiving this award from Pittsburgh Vision Services . Ws started working with the blind and visually impaired more than 2 years ago, initially as a social responsibility. Very quickly we learnt that the blind and visually impaired community represents a talented and educated workforce that can be an asset to our industry. Our employment of the blind has enabled may individuals to establish themselves as high achievers within our call centers, and at the same time provided UniversalSystems with a dedicated and productive workforce. This is a win/win environment for all parties: for our customers, our community, our staff and our business?.
