Growth in U.S. home prices will slow significantly in 2006, driven by rising mortgage rates that will dampen demand, the top economist at mortgage finance company Freddie Mac said on Wednesday.


Frank Nothaft, chief economist at the U.S. mortgage finance giant, said price appreciation this year could hit 12 percent. But in 2006, prices should rise on average by a smaller 7.7 percent nationwide, he said.
