MedAssets, Inc. announced today that Baptist Health System (BHS) in Birmingham, Alabama has signed an enterprise agreement for margin and cash flow enhancement services including group purchasing, supply chain analytics and technology, revenue cycle management, and decision support technology. The multi-year, enterprise agreement is effective August 1, 2006.

“The return on investment from any one of MedAssets’ offerings is substantial; however, I see even greater value in the integrated solution,” stated Doug Davenport, chief financial officer, Baptist Health System. “MedAssets’ technology and services improve data integrity, enhance visibility into the data to improve decision making, and highlight areas for business process improvement. Baptist will be a showcase for the positive impact of a full MedAssets engagement.”

BHS will utilize the full capabilities of MedAssets Supply Chain Systems and MedAssets Analytical Systems for supply chain management. These capabilities include item file data conditioning and proprietary technology to improve on-contract spending, ensure the contract price is paid, and guide decision making to maximize cost savings.

MedAssets Net Revenue Systems is currently providing BHS hospitals with chargemaster monitoring and maintenance, charge capture auditing and comparative rate modeling technology and services and will continue these services under the new enterprise agreement. CrossWalk™, MedAssets’ tool to link the supply item master to the chargemaster, will be added to ensure charges accurately cover costs for all patient identifiable supplies with a defensible markup.

“MedAssets’ ability to link the supply chain to the revenue cycle with CrossWalk is one example of the benefit of engaging the full MedAssets product offering,” continued Davenport. “Not only will our data on both sides of the equation be processed to ensure its integrity by MedAssets tools, the linkage of supply chain to revenue cycle will provide an ongoing visibility to ensure we are not losing money on supplies, especially on high priced medical devices and other high volume items.”

Avega Health Systems, MedAssets’ subsidiary voted Best in KLAS(1) for business decision support, will provide BHS with the Alliance Suite, which integrates financial, clinical, and administrative information to support decision-making across the healthcare enterprise. Combining OLAP and Ad-Hoc reporting with a web-based distribution tool, Avega’s Alliance Decision Support, Alliance Financial Management, myAlliance Portal and Key Indicators Executive Dashboard applications will help Baptist improve clinical performance, control costs, manage and negotiate contracts, develop their budget and analyze productivity across their organization.

“The leadership team at Baptist Health System fully understands the benefit of the MedAssets enterprise solution,” stated Rand Ballard, chief operating officer, MedAssets, Inc. “They see the interconnectivity of supply costs and reimbursement, the impact of data cleanliness on decision making, and the use of technology to automate tasks that improve overall operations. We are pleased that we have been chosen as a strategic business partner to assist Baptist Health System in improving cash flow and business processes.”
