NEW YORK – Using rigid selection criteria that requires a proven track record of performance and national experience in collecting debt on a national basis, the Federal Student Aid (FSA) office of the US Department of Education announced that it has awarded IntelliRisk Management Corporation (IRMC) and its public sector collections company Allied Interstate Inc. the opportunity to participate in the department’s debt collection program.

There are billions of dollars in uncollected student loan debt. Since 1979, FSA has contracted out its debt collection activity. In FY 2004 alone, FSA collected more than $1.8 billion in defaulted student loans with private collection agencies accounting for over $1.2 billion.


According to the FSA, “the work performed under these contracts is performance-based and highly competitive. The contracts are contingency fee based and therefore result in significant savings to the federal government.”


IRMC utilizes several proprietary tools in its collections practice. Performance Engineering™1.0, a novel proprietary product designed and constructed to add strong analytics methods and systems to portfolio management and performance in the collections industry, is used by IRMC to increase efficiency of collections. IRMC has applied for a patent for the new offering with the Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, DC. In the patent application, the invention is described as providing “Performance enhancement methods and systems for designing and implementing collection agency strategies.”
