HAWTHORNE, NY — Cavalry Investments LLC, one of the nation’s largest debt-buyers, has leased space to open a new operations center in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Cavalry has leased 15,000 square feet on the second floor of the historic Hamm Building at 408 St. Peter Street in downtown St. Paul. Slated to open in June, the new office initially will employ 70 people, currently located in temporary space, with plans to expand to 125 employees by year-end, said Andrew Zaro, Cavalry chief executive officer.

“Cavalry continues to experience record growth and we’re very pleased to open our new office in St. Paul,” Zaro said. “We’re looking actively to expand our base of expertise, not just locally in St. Paul, but also at our network of operations centers throughout the country.”

Cavalry acquires and then collects on non-performing consumer debt portfolios from major banks, consumer finance, credit card and auto companies, as well as other industries such as utilities and telecom. The firm more than doubled its portfolio of receivables to $7.9 billion in 2002, up from $3 billion in 2001.

Cavalry has more than 425 employees servicing 2.2 million accounts in four offices across the country. Based in Hawthorne, New York, the firm also has operations centers in Phoenix, Arizona, and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
