General Electric Co.’s consumer lending unit has applied for a banking license in Canada, but don’t expect GE bank branches to be popping up across the country any time soon, the company said on Monday.


GE Consumer Finance, which offers everything from private label credit cards to mortgages, said it filed an application earlier this month and should hear from Canadian authorities by the end of the year.
