More questions are being raised over the current administration’s program of evesdropping on citizens, according to an Associated Press story.

Shortly after September 11, telephone companies, including AT&T, Verizon, and Bell South, began turning over phone records for tens of millions of their customers’ phone calls.

The phone companies claim that they are protecting customers’ privacy, but at the same time have an obligation in assisting law enforcement officials in assuring the nation’s safety.

Unlike other surveillance tactics used by the current administration, this one does not involve listening in on phone conversations. Instead, it documents personal and business calls made, whether local or long distance.
