FierceHealthIT has announced the winners of its first-ever Top Health IT Innovators award featuring the top 10 companies poised to make a major impact on the health IT industry.

The winners include several companies focused on consumer-related issues that have the potential to significantly impact the doctor/patient relationship. Applications include a technology that will double-check drug side-effects, interactive in-room content for hospitals which will bring new dimensions to caregiver-patient relationships, and an open source-based Web application that allows patients to enter their symptoms and treatments and track outcomes.
