A UK firm whose business know-how is fast carving a niche in the tough North American market, has joined forces with mighty IBM.

United Utilities subsidiary Vertex, the UK’s third largest business process services operator has teamed up with IBM in a deal which will net it a “significant slice” of a $2bn contract over the next 10 years.

Under the alliance, Vertex will provide a broad range of business outsourcing facilities, such as call centre, sales and billing services to NiSource, a multi-state energy company with 3.5 million customers.

Vertex, which began its operations in North America in Canada, three years ago, has grown significantly under his leadership. It has a US debt collection business in Denver, a contract with a Canadian utility in Toronto and a mortgage business based in Vancouver.
