Indiana-based American Financial Credit Service has been hired by Marshall County to help recoup $200,000 in personal property taxes.

The Marshall County Board of Commissioners approved the request on Tuesday.

Penny Lukenbill, Marshall County Treasurer, told the Pilot News that the majority of delinquent cases are from out-of-state owners of trailer lots in West Township. AFCS employs mail notices and personal visits to collect overdue tax payments.

American Financial Credit Service’s solid reputation precedes it.  Lukenbill said Huntington County, a county similar in size to Marshall County, collected $65,000 more in property taxes than the previous year after hiring AFCS. Saint Joseph County, she said, collect $2.5 million more.

“It’s time to get more aggressive with this,” Lukenbill said.
