New Jersey’s brought us a lot of great things: Bud Abbot, Bruce Springsteen, Anne Morrow Lindbergh. Now, the Garden State can add “Home of the Data-Theft Ring Responsible for the Largest U.S. Banking Security Breach in History” to its list of illustrious accomplishments.

Jersey will probably want to pithy that up before they roll with it.

Bank of America Corp. officials confirmed Tuesday that information on about 60,000 customers has been stolen by a New Jersey data-theft ring.

Bank of America is now contacting those affected and is helping to ensure the future safety of its compromised customers.

The Jersey crime ring targeted Wachovia Corp., Commerce Bancorp Inc. and PNC Bank NA as well.

In a related development, Hackensack police Det. Capt. Frank Lomia today announced the arrest of another suspect in the case, bringing the number of people charged in the case to 10. Eight of the suspects are former bank employees who allegedly provided customer information to build the crime ring’s database.
