Denver-based ePayments Corp., a leading electronic payments processing and support services company, has announced the launch of a new division to serve the medical, legal and other professions. ePayments CEO Paul Lufkin said the new Professional Payment Services division will provide payments processing and electronic check recovery (RCK) services nationwide.

“The services will help professional practices such as doctors, lawyers, dentists, veterinarians, architects, engineers, accountants and others to save the time, money and headaches associated with credit card processing,” explained Lufkin.

Lufkin said the electronic check processing is just as secure as any credit card transaction, but without the transaction fees. ePayments Corp President & Chief Sales Officer Rod Hill said the savings can be significant for many professionals running their own businesses.

“We’re confident that we can save our clients up to 50 percent on their credit card fees every month,” said Hill. “That’s our objective. If our clients can work with their customers to accept checks or checking account debits in place of high cost credit cards, it’s a realistic and achievable goal.”

Hill said many businesses, especially in the professional services arena, feel trapped between customers wanting to pay by credit card and the outrageous costs charged for credit card processing. “Now, there’s a practical alternative,” he said, “and this new division is focused and understands the needs of professional offices.”

Credit card processing fees typically run about $300 to $1,000 per month, which includes 2 to 4 percent of each transaction and another fee of 20 to 25 cents per transaction – plus monthly fees and equipment costs, Hill said. ePayments can process payments much more cost effectively for a low monthly flat rate ($39) with no transaction cost using the Automated Clearing House (ACH) network to electronically process checks and account debits.

“Using licensed, secure software running on a back-office computer, professional service operations can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars over time on the processing of recurring and one-time transactions,” Lufkin noted.

According to Lufkin, ePayments’ proprietary, licensed check processing software is installed on-site and all data is kept secure with 128-bit SSL data encryption, meeting the government’s highest security standards.

In addition to check processing, ePayments also offers no cost electronic collection of NSF (non-sufficient funds) checks.

ePayments specializes in working with schools, non profits, governments and companies of all sizes that handle payments in the form of check and credit card transactions. Since U.S. banking system rules were changed to allow businesses to use the ACH and Check 21 methodologies to electronically process checks from customers, a new industry of providers has emerged to support businesses with electronic check conversion, electronic NSF recovery and related compliance services.
