The Senate Finance Committee is taking a serious look at what universal healthcare coverage in this country might look like, and if, in fact, universal healthcare is even feasible.

The Committee will meet Wednesday, March 14, to hear testimony and talk out issues on the topic of “Charting a Course for Healthcare Reform: Moving Toward Universal Coverage.”

While the title sounds like a foregone conclusion – universal healthcare seems to be a destination the Committee is sure we can get to – the questions haven’t entirely been answered.  The 10 a.m. meeting is the first step in plotting that course.

Witnesses include James Mongan, M.D., president and chief executive officer, Partners HealthCare, Boston; Stuart Altman, dean and Sol Chaikin professor of National Health Policy, Heller School for Social Policy and Management, Brandeis University, Waltham, Mass.; and John Sheils, vice president, the Lewin Group, Falls Church, Va. The session is in the Dirksen Senate Office Building.
