A family in Dallas has filed a federal lawsuit against a collection agency for re-aging a debt that was allegedly past the statute of limitations, according to a Dallas TV news station.

CBS 11 News is reporting that Tonnea Williams filed a lawsuit against a collection agency when an old debt on her credit report prevented her from getting a lower rate on a home loan. The agency claims that it corrected the error when it found out about it, but Williams is proceeding with the suit regardless.

The collection agency has said that Williams made a payment on the account that started the seven-year clock afresh. It claims that the lawsuit is a ?complete shakedown.?
