According to a story running on the Jackson, Michigan-based Citizen Patriot?s website, employees of a local collection agency may unionize. The agency, Call Center HR, collects primarily for local utilities.

The collectors are striking for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. According to representatives working to unionize the collection agency, collectors are currently only making between $6.50 and $7.00 an hour, and pay over $100 per paycheck for health insurance.

“We’re going to help them get a contract that will hold up in a court of law,” Alan Sprague, union president and organizer, told the Citizen Patriot. “However long it takes, we’ll be there for them.”

A memo to employees, though, seemed to suggest otherwise: ?We sincerely believe that the best interests of all employees at CCHR are served by remaining union-free,” the memo said. “If we have problems, we believe that the best alternative is to work them out face to face.?
