According to a Press & Sun-Bulletin article running today, Nationwide Credit Inc., a Kennesaw, Ga.-based company, will expand its Vestal, NY, offices, creating 455 jobs over the next three years. George Williams, NCI’s chief financial officer, has said that the company could rehire former workers for the positions. Many workers lost their jobs when the company lost a contract with MCI.

Economic development officials say NCI’s jobs point to a much needed diversified economy in the Southern Tier.

“Of course we want to go after the higher-paying jobs, but this still helps us diversify our economy and give our workforce more options, and that workforce itself is very diversified,” said Jim DiMascio, executive director of the Greater Binghamton Coalition. “This gives more people more options and it helps lower unemployment rates. When those are lower, it’s always a good day.”
