U.S. consumer credit rose by $3.94 billion in January, the Federal Reserve reported yesterday. According to an analyst poll conducted by Reuters, consumer credit was expected to rise by $5 billion.


Credit card spending rose 2.6% in the month after a drop of 0.9% in December.


Total consumer credit outstanding stood at $2.162 trillion in January.
