Rising insurance costs and the current economic downturn have made it difficult for medical providers to collect payments. Although many medical providers rely on their billing companies for their collection needs, most are unaware of the legal limitations that prevent billing agencies from effectively collecting overdue balances. To address this service vacuum, collections agency Control Data Inc. (CDI), a leading Florida collections agency, is initiating an active campaign to recruit medical providers as clients.

“Our goal is to provide our medical clients with transparent service that maximizes their returns,” states Curtis Smith, founder of Control Data Inc.

Compared to medical billing agencies, CDI recovers twice as many funds due to the legal avenues available to the company as a collections agency. Whereas many medical billing companies are forced to pass collection costs onto the medical provider, Control Data Inc. has the ability to make truant account holders responsible for collection costs. In addition, the collection agency’s ability to place delinquent balances on the account holder’s credit file ensures the medical provider has a legal claim to the balance due in the event the account holder files bankruptcy.

The agency also maximizes returns to its clients through the company’s flat commission rates, in contrast to the industry standard of variable commission rates that increase with the age of the balance. No fee is charged to CDI clients unless a balance is collected. In addition, the company lowers its rates for clients that refer new customers to the agency. To ensure a high level of customer service, each of CDI’s clients are assigned a customer service representative who is tasked with intimately knowing the client’s accounts.

CDI currently provides its services to small and medium businesses in Florida, but is expanding to the national market. Its clients represent firms from a variety of industries, including law practices and telecommunication companies. The company is looking to solidify its share in the collections industry among medical providers. Control Data Inc. has had great success in Florida, often acquiring new clients through word of mouth, and looks to achieve similar results on a national basis.
