Municipal Services Bureau (MSB) is announcing the start of courtesy telephone calls to surcharge customers in the Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Responsibility Program (DRP). Senate Bill 1723 was a legislative mandate passed in September 2007 that allows the State of Texas to use new methods to communicate with surcharge customers in addition to mailing notices.

“We are pleased to be able to offer this service to individuals who may not be aware that they are in default and their license is suspended,” said Med Fadel, Chief State Officer at MSB.

MSB will begin making courtesy telephone calls in early September 2008 for surcharge customers who have been in default for more than six months.  Furthermore, MSB will be working to ensure it has the most updated phone and contact information available by coordinating with the United States Postal Service and other agencies to reach as many customers as possible.
