Along with being short-listed for a possible Pulitzer, the Boston Globe’s series on consumers and collection agencies titled “Debtors’ Hell” was awarded a Sigma Delta Chi Public Service Award.

The award is given for excellence in journalism.

Walter Robinson, a former editor with the Globe who was responsible, in part, for the piece, was quoted in the Globe as saying, "We’re grateful for the honor, especially because it recognizes the Spotlight Team for calling attention to the mistreatment, even by our court system, of countless thousands of people who have no power and no voice in our society.”
