ARM and BPO giant NCO Group said Thursday that it is hiring 500 workers at its call center in Joplin, Mo. in response to expanding contracts with its two largest clients.

NCO officials said that the hiring will help fulfill new business agreements with Best Buy and Intuit, according to The Joplin Globe. The work done for the clients is inbound customer support.

The office’s manager told the paper that the hiring would begin immediately.

Mike Wiggins, board chairman of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce, was elated by the news.

“We’re talking about 500 jobs,” Wiggins said to the Globe. “When the rest of the country is having a difficult time, we’re rocking and rolling.”

In late May, Joplin was devastated when a massive tornado cut a path through the heart of town. More than 160 people died and thousands of structures were destroyed. NCO officials noted the recovery from the storm during the announcement, hoping that their hiring plans would help get things back to normal in the town.
