Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline announced yesterday that his office is investigating whether state non-profit hospitals are using unethical collection practices for unpaid bills.

Kline said the focus of his investigation is on the treatment of uninsured and underinsured patients.

Kline did not reveal the target hospitals of the investigation. He did mention that Kansas Hospital Association is fully cooperating with the investigation.

The announcement came at a called news conference.
