A former collection director in Buffalo has pleaded guilty to selling debtors’ personal information to a third party for financial gain.

Andrew Pytlewski was a director at Capital Management Services in 2009 when he sold an undisclosed amount of information belonging to one of CMS’ clients to two men, Timothy E. Arent and Neil G. Wieczkowski, for a total of $28,000. Arent and Wieczkowski used the information in a debt collection scam that Pytlewski had no knowledge of (“Feds Arrest Two in Buffalo for Debt Collection Scam,” Oct. 5, 2009).

Pytlewski pleaded guilty Monday to stealing and selling the information. He will be sentenced Friday and faces up to 10 years in jail and a potential fine of $250,000, according to U.S. attorneys.

Arent and Wieczkowski’s scam allegedly netted the pair millions of dollars. They would call consumers using personal bank information and scare their victims into paying debts that were entirely made up.
