BIRMINGHAM, AL – BBVA Compass announced today that Charles “Mark” Tuggle, senior vice president and director of Collections, has been named to serve as chair of the Consumer Bankers Association’s (CBA) Collections Committee. As Chair of the Collections Committee, Tuggle will lead the committee in maintaining its focus on the unique needs of today’s collections efforts as it discusses best practices for minimizing losses and keeping customers in their homes as loan delinquencies and defaults increase.

“BBVA Compass is a long-standing and valued member of the CBA family and I am very pleased Mark Tuggle will be leading the Collections Committee. Given current economic conditions, banks must have a dual focus on generating loans and preventing loan losses, which makes collections an even more critical function in retail banking operations. CBA’s Collections Committee provides the only forum for collections officers to discuss issues and compare best practices,” said CBA President Richard Hunt.

Founded in 1919, CBA is the recognized voice on retail banking issues in the nation’s capital and provides leadership, education, research and federal representation on retail banking issues such as privacy, fair lending and consumer protection legislation/regulation. Member institutions are the leaders in consumer financial services, including auto finance, home equity lending, card products, education loans, small business services, community development, investments, deposits and delivery. Shelaghmichael Brown, BBVA Compass senior executive vice president and head of Retail Banking, also serves on CBA’s 20-member Board of Directors.

As director of Collections at BBVA Compass, Tuggle is responsible for the strategic direction and oversight of Retail collection and is also accountable for the mitigation of consumer loan delinquency and loss across all Retail products in the bank. Tuggle also has responsibility for delivery in all stages of collection through the call center and support staff located in Decatur and Birmingham, Alabama. In his 10 year career with BBVA Compass, Tuggle has held increasingly responsible positions in the bank.

An Alabama native, Tuggle received his undergraduate degree from Birmingham-Southern College, MBA from Samford University and also graduated from The CBA Graduate School of Retail Bank Management. Tuggle is an active member of the local community and serves as president of the Oak Mountain High School Band Boosters.
